“Coming home
A return to self
A center of a storm”
Hanan Eshaq, Writer & Visual Artist
About The Artist
Hanan Ishaq- writer, photographer and visual artist based in Yemen.
Hanan began exploring visual arts through photography during Yemen’s civil unrest in 2011. Being forced into the throes of an external conflict brought about the need for an internal resolution and reinterpretation of the world around her, and art was the best medium for that journey.
Today, Hanan's artwork extends to ink on paper drawings which express a range of notions, including those of her cognitive reality/internal dialogue as a woman in the context of a conservative and complex socio-political reality. In addition to expressing personal philosophical interpretations, she also finds special interest in social structures, collective consciousness and challenging the status quo.

I still carried you
lovingly on my back
hoping you wouldn’t sense my
weakness
but you heard me weep
and you fell with me when I
stumbled
did I hurt you?
when I ceased to love myself?
